Have you been debating about outing yourself to your family and closest friends or staying in the closet for just a little while longer? First of all, it is entirely your decision whether you are ready for this significant milestone in your life. The important thing to remember is to be patient with yourself and others. Don’t feel pressured. Be positive. There isn’t a right time or a wrong time to come out. Everyone’s journey is different, and it’s what makes you one-of-a-kind, Gorgeous! With that said, we have compiled a list of the top 10 (and in no particular order) must-see LGBTQ+ films that are definitely worth checking out! These influential movies have raised awareness for our LGBTQ+ Black, Latino, Asian, and multiracial communities by addressing topics that continue to impact us today.

moonlight

“Stop putting your head down in my house. You know my rule: It's all love and all pride in this house.”

Moonlight was awarded Best Picture at the Academy Awards. It is a coming-of-age story that was released in 2016 and depicts the three stages of life for the main character (Chiron) from childhood to early adult life. The film is one of the most influential films of the century. It explores sexuality, identity, and the challenges Chiron faces while living and growing up in Miami.

Carol

This timeless and elegant film portrays two women whose bond grows into an unexpected love affair. The two main characters, Carol and Therese, learn more about each other while navigating the challenging world of conventional norms of 1950s society.

Love, Simon
"I'm done being scared. I'm done living in a world where I don't get to be who I am. I deserve a great love story."
Love, Simon is a 2018 movie about the relatable experiences that come from being a high school student. In particular, an in-the-closest gay teenager who increasingly becomes concerned that someone will out him. This heartwarming romantic comedy tells the tale of Simon and his quest to accept his sexuality and identity while also searching for the anonymous classmate he has fallen for online.

“Kiss me. Now. In front of all these people.”
Released in 2004, this lighthearted and charming film depicts a love affair between two women and the cultural taboos they must overcome in their daily lives. Wil, a Chinese-American lesbian surgeon, is shocked to find her mother at her doorstep, pregnant. Vivian, a dancer (and who happens to be the daughter of Wil’s boss), immediately feels the strong attraction between them when meeting at the hospital where Wil works. 
The birdcage

This 1996 classic film has given the audience a glimpse at the glitz and glamour of Miami’s South Beach flamboyant lifestyle. The movie is about a gay couple who has to put on a straight front to support their son’s engagement to the daughter of a conservative senator. 
To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything!
“Approval neither desired nor required.”
To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar follows three absolutely fabulous and unapologetic drag queens on their journey to Hollywood to participate in the “Miss Drag Queen of America” pageant. Along the way, the trio encounters a less-than-friendly officer and takes refuge from the incident in a small rural town.

This coming of age 2020 movie takes a lighthearted approach to win the heart of a particular crush, which the two friends happen to share the same infatuation for. Ellie, a high school essay and homework writing dealer, has been hired by a classmate (Paul) to write romantic letters and text messages to Aster, the beautiful crush. 
I Can't Think Straight
“They’re in love.”
I Can’t Think Straight is a movie that was released in 2008 and tells an unfolding love story between the two main characters, Leyla and Tala. On their journey to pursue their dreams and passions, family expectations challenge their love for one another. 
Call Me By Your Name
"... our hearts and our bodies are given to us only once."
This romantic drama set in the 1980s was released in 2017 and echoes sentiments that resonate with those who have experienced a long-distance relationship and first love. The film is about the two main characters, Elio and Oliver. Oliver is a graduate student who has been invited by Elio’s father to stay with them in Northern Italy. Elio, the professor’s son, begins to develop a friendship with Oliver that quickly turns into a love affair. 
Boy Meets Girl
“No matter what we look like or who we are, we are all just stumbling through life trying to figure it out.”

Released in 2014, Boy Meets Girl is a film that depicts the life of a beautiful 21-year old transwoman, Ricky, who lives in Kentucky. Aspiring to be a New York fashion designer, Ricky’s world suddenly turns upside down when she meets the charming Francesca.
